چکیده

Although there exists a multitude of diierent inspection processes, the basic process has remained unchanged since it was rst deened by Fagan in 1976. This process has as its central component an inspection meeting which all participants attend. But is this meeting cost eeective? Recent empirical work has indicated this is not the case. An inspection model and prototype tool that dispense totally with the need for the inspectors to hold face-to-face meetings are presented. They replace the meeting with further individual inspections combined with communication between inspectors facilitated by electronic mail. The model and tool are both compared with other existing work in the area of meet-ingless inspection.

A Preliminary Study on Asynchronous Discussions for Distributed Software Inspections

Face-to-face (F2F) meeting is the cornerstone of the traditional inspection process. However, F2F meetings hinder the applicability of software inspections in the context of distributed software development. We present a preliminary study where we compare six collocated versus six distributed inspections. In the former group team members physically meet and discuss in a collocated manner, while...

Virtual Software Inspections for Distributed Software Engineering Projects

Traditional software inspection is recognized method, but is poorly suited to modern distributed software engineering projects. Arranging inspections in a distributed and asynchronous manner is not a straightforward matter. Over and over again, researchers have constructed tools with unique sets of features to support paper-based inspections. Now the concept of virtual software inspection is in...

Introducing the Next Generation of Software Inspection Tools

The area of tool support for software inspection has been under active research since the early 1990's. Although numerous implementations exist and development is still taking place, no tool has achieved a breakthrough. The main reason is that one tool usually demonstrates only one new idea, neglecting other features. A different approach must be taken, and software inspection tools should be s...

Reducing Inspection Interval in Large-Scale Software Development

ÐWe have found that, when software is developed by multiple, geographically separated teams, the cost-benefit trade-offs of software inspection change. In particular, this situation can significantly lengthen the inspection interval (calendar time needed to complete an inspection). Our research goal was to find a way to reduce the inspection interval without reducing inspection effectiveness. W...

Semantic Inspection of Software Artifacts From Theory to Practice

Providing means for the development of correct software still remains a central challengeof computer science. In this thesis we present a novel approach to tool-based inspectionfocusing on the functional correctness of software artifacts. The approach is based onconventional inspection in the style of Fagan, but extended with elements of formalverification in the style of Hoare....
